In brief
Phase 2 of the voluntary notification for health supplements and traditional medicines will commence on 1 August 2023. The scope of the present voluntary notification for health supplements and traditional medicines will be expanded to cover more types of health supplements and traditional medicines.
In more detail
The objective of the voluntary notification for health supplements and traditional medicines is to establish a local database of reliable, good quality and safe products that consumers can refer to when making purchases. It also facilitates better traceability and follow-up actions in the event of safety or quality issues.
Phase 1 of the voluntary notification for health supplements and traditional medicines commenced on 1 August 2022.
Under the voluntary notification for health supplements and traditional medicines, companies may submit documents regarding their products to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA). The products would be published on the HSA’s database if they meet the necessary safety and quality standards and labelling requirements.
From 1 August 2023, the scope of the voluntary notification for health supplements and traditional medicines will be expanded to include other health supplements and traditional medicines (e.g., probiotics, omega fatty acids, glucosamine, echinacea supplements, herbal cough, cold and flu medicines, tonics, etc.) and medicated oils, balms and medicated plasters.
