Episode one – Immigration and Employment issues relating to new visa costs

This 10 minute watch deals with the increasing cost of the UK visa process and the impact these changes will have on employers. The intersection between employment law and immigration is an interesting and topical one – prudent employers will have this on their radars as the implications of the visa fee and salary band changes mean that employers may need to actively consider reviewing their policy and decision making processes balancing fairness and compliance, with respect to their workforces.

Ziyana is an Associate in the Employment & Compensation Department of Baker McKenzie's London office. She joined the Firm as a trainee in March 2017. As part of her training contract, Ziyana spent time in the IT / Commercial, Corporate Finance, Structured Capital Markets departments. Ziyana also completed a three-month secondment to the Firm offices in San Francisco where she undertook a combination of Intellectual Property and Employment work. She subsequently qualified as an associate and was admitted as a Solicitor of England and Wales in March 2019.

Tony Haque is a senior associate with over 20 years' experience advising in all areas of UK immigration and nationality work, and related European Union law. He is a member of Baker McKenzie’s Global Labor Employment and Employee Benefits Practice Group, where he advises on related corporate, tax and labor law issues, and leads the Firm's Global Immigration & Mobility department in London. Tony is an appointed member of the Law Society's Immigration Law Committee which provides expert guidance to practitioners and seeks to influence the direction of policy. He is recognized as a leader in his field by all of the main UK legal directories including Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, Legal Experts, Global Counsel 3000 and A Who’s Who of Corporate Immigration Lawyers.

Julia Wilson is a partner in Baker McKenzie's Employment & Compensation team in London and co-chair of the Firm's Workforce Redesign client solution. Julia also leads the employment data privacy practice in London. Julia advises multinational organisations on a wide range of employment and data protection matters. She is highly regarded by clients, who describe her as a “standout” performer who "knows how we think." A member of the Firm's Pro Bono Committee, she plays a lead role in the Firm's pro bono relationship with Save the Children International. She also collaborates with Law Works to deliver employment law training to solicitors who provide pro bono advice to individuals.
